Below is the blurb that we sent out, but ultimately it was a talk about us and how photography and photographers feature within our practice.
Dialogical Aesthetics / Relational Aesthetics / Engaged Practice / Social Practice / Community Arts - call it what you will, is where our interest and practice lies. We are not sure these titles are a true fit, although we know we are trying to be artists in the world rather than artists just in the artworld. We want to be useful and we are keen our practice is purposeful; we work within a social context, within sites, landscapes and places - communities. Our practice is increasingly driven not by product or permanent outcomes; only making things if it’s the right thing to do. Often within our work we utilise photography or the photographer, with the outcome acting as document and/or artwork in the form of projection, website, magazine.
Kate and Steve are currently artists in residence on Parson Cross Estate. Sheffield - this research funded by Yorkshire Artspace and The Paul Hamlyn Foundation explores how artists operate and situate themselves and their art within a community context and what practice offers communities.
