With the Ruskin/ ACE award results looming its interesting to see Ruskin featured in this months [april] Art Review. Its a faked interview between him and Mathew Collings. Does this mean we are of the moment - could it be a good omen for the 2oth and the result?
Also whats interesting is this magazines seeming determination to drive forward social practice or at least socially responsible actions. The article is worth a read and i particularly like the part where 'Ruskin' says - ..if art is to play a role, there must be a move away from trying to imitate the power of the mass media [in the name of deconstructing it] towards a greater interest in the visual sense, more awareness of the history of art and more a linking between history, visuality and actual perception - the way reality is revealed by light for example, as much as it is revealed [or lied about] by the dominant communication means. it would be marvellous if there could be primitive first steps towards this new conception of art...
Perhaps this is what we are striving for too or perhaps this is what we discuss at our first meeting whether we do or dont get the project. It is after all a call from beyond the grave!!!
