The Business of Life

Artists Kate Genever and Steve Pool have been successful in obtaining an Arts Council England Award for THE BUSINESS OF LIFE: a project that will enable them to work in North Sheffield for the next 20 months.  The work focuses on a
contemporary interpretation of John Ruskin’s work and includes the launch of a new Ruskin Studio in Parson Cross and a Poly-Technic that will offer research publications and classes.

John Ruskin was a Victorian critic/collector/artists/thinker who came to Sheffield in the 1870s at his friend’s suggestion, bringing with him his progressive ideas around art and social justice. His collection of artefacts and artworks are held by Museum Sheffield and can be seen in the Ruskin Collection, Millennium Galleries. Sheffield.

Kate and Steve’s work will also feature in the upcoming Ruskin inspired show at The Graves Gallery - Force of Nature. The show opens in December 2012.

THE BUSINESS OF LIFE will see’s the two artists taking the lead while working in partnership with Museum Sheffield, Yorkshire Artspace, Soar Works at Knutton Road and other city centre cultural organisations.
