Below are the question Amanda has posed to us after our trip to Hope. A trip intended to encourage us to step outside of the practice so we can reflect on the Ruskin project, where we are at and perhaps affect think about future planning.
1) What
changed over the course of the year?
2) What does
all the activity of the year add up to; what does it tell us about what Kate
and Steve do, care about, make, and value?
3) What does
it mean to do something well?
4) What is
value for money? What other measures of value are there?
5) If Kate
and Steve have a holistic practice, then what kind of (w)hole is it? What does
it taste, smell, sound, feel, and look like? What ways of thinking about the
world does it provoke?
6) What are
the characteristics of a world-wide artist?
7) Is bloody
mindedness a way of creating what you believe in, bringing into being the
things you want?
8) What might
the value of writing from the outside a practice be?
AND
Who are
Kate and Steve's artistic family - others whose work they admire, spark off,
feel drawn to?
Where did
their way of working come from? Why did it feel important to work this way -
what are the wider political and social questions and events they are
responding to?
If we
looked at K and S's past ten years funding, works, non funded projects etc,
what would we find out about how the have grown their practice? and the kinds
of support they have had and not had? What do we know about how their work has
been received?
